This past weekend, the University of Georgia Rowing club competed in its first spring competition. It was not the regular regatta, but an erg sprint that was held at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. These sprints took place in a gym where 40 ergs were lined up. While the rowers pulled their 2k sprint, they could watch a monitor that had boats racing across the screen telling them what place they were in. Erg sprints are a unique opportunity to compete individually against other rowers.

UGA had an exceptional showing. UGA won first in the novice men, light men and light women categories. They also placed in the top three in open varsity women and open varsity men. All of this hard work resulted in UGA taking home the first place team points trophy.

February 10th will be the next opportunity for UGA to compete in erg sprints. This event will take place in Atlanta and will be hosted by the in-state rival, Georgia Tech. Hopefully UGA will row away with another victory.
